Description
Light sculpture Mandalay
Mandalay is a light sculpture formed of two spheres of blown glass using the overlay technique. This technique consists of superimposing several layers of glass before cutting them cold with a diamond tip.
The interior of the spheres is covered with opaline, which gives them their luminosity. Both parts are equipped with a led light source.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Xavier Lenormand has been a glassblower for twenty-five years. He is a recipient of the Bettencourt Prize for l’Intelligence de la Main. He creates poetic works inspired by nature, the cosmos and the depths of the sea. Having exhibited at major international design fairs, he also works on the creation of unique bottles and bespoke pieces for Christian Dior perfumes.
In 2021, he settled in Dordogne in a spacious studio, where he developed an artistic identity rooted in glassblowing and cold cutting techniques. He draws his inspiration from nature, which he regards as a source of perfection and humility.
His work, deeply connected to the cosmos, the depths of the sea and luminous phenomena, seeks to express the movement of life and the fragility of childhood. He sculpts, chisels, engraves and imprints the glass, a material he believes capable of transforming the unreal into tangible form. Through his sculptures he invites us into a world of dreams and wonder.
